中華電信投資之橫太平洋快速海纜增加新投資者

中華電信公司表示該公司與中國電信、中國網通、中國聯通及韓國電信公司、美國Verizon公司共同投資興建橫跨亞洲與美國之TPE（Trans-Pacific Express）橫太平洋快速海纜新增加投資者美國AT&T公司及日本NTT公司已分別於今年二月廿八日、三月十四日簽署合約，正式成為TPE海纜之新會員。

TPE海纜連接台灣、中國大陸、韓國、日本與美國，全長超過18,000公里、系統最大容量為5.12 Tbps，總投資金額超過5億美金。台灣、中國大陸、韓國與美國段預計今年八月完工，台灣對日本段預計明年（2009）三月完工。

中華電信有鑒於網際網路應用日新月異，企業客戶與寬頻網路使用者數量不斷攀升，使得國際頻寬需求年年創新紀錄，為滿足頻寬需求及網路多元化、提供客戶快速且安全之語音及數據服務，除現有投資多條海纜外，於2006年即率先加入TPE海纜投資。

TPE海纜除能提供高通信系統容量外，更是台灣對美國首條可提供客戶高達10Gbps頻寬的直達海纜系統。中華電信於TPE海纜完工後，其對中國大陸、韓國、日本及美國間頻寬更為充裕，並因此一新海纜路由使得網路安全性大幅提高，未來中華電信客戶不論使用語音、數據、視訊及網際網路通訊，均將得到最佳服務品質。

TPE Cable Invested by CHT Adds Two New Investors - NTT & AT&T

Taipei, 26 March 2008 Chunghwa Telecom （CHT） announced today that AT&T and NTT joined in the investment of the Trans-Pacific Express（TPE） Submarine Cable System on Feb. 28, 2008 and Mar. 14, 2008 respectively and became new members to the investor group which originally included Chunghwa Telecom, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom, Korea Telecom and Verizon Business in USA.

The TPE Network has the capability of carrying 5.12 terabit per second （Tbps） at maximum over a total length of 18,000 kilometers . The route directly linking Taiwan, Mainland China, Korea and USA is scheduled to be operating by August 2008, followed by the launch of Taiwan-Japan route in March 2009.

As early as in 2006, CHT began its investment in the new cable TPE for the purpose of meeting the continuously growing demand of international bandwidth as a result of bulging innovative Internet applications and constantly increasing corporate users and broadband users.

TPE assumes considerable importance in the industry not only because of the great capacity it holds but also because of the 10Gbps high bandwidth which has never been used before in the direct cables between Taiwan and USA. The investment CHT made in TPE will ensure better route diversity and provide its customers with swift and secure services of voice, data, video and internet communications.
